His counsel claims Trump was "shocked" by indictment.
Donald Trump was "shocked" to hear that a Manhattan grand jury had voted to indict him, his lawyer said. The former president will be arraigned on 34 counts on Tuesday.
Joe Tacopina told Fox News host Sean Hannity that he talked to Trump, 76, after the indictment came out. He said that they both heard about it from the news, not from Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg's office.
"He is ready to go to war. I don't know anyone tougher than him. "He was shocked, you know, because we weren't really shocked. I was shocked," Tacopina said of Trump's reaction to the indictment.
"I've never been so angry about a charge because today, the rule of law in the United States of America died. It's over. It's dead," Tacopina said.
Tacopina also said that he believes the news that Trump will be charged with more than 30 counts of business fraud.
"We've already heard 34 counts, and I can promise you that when we find out next week, it will still be 34 counts," he said.
"They might count each check, since they are paid to Cohen," he said.
The lawyer also said that Trump's court date on Tuesday is "not set in stone."
"We're having talks with them, and it's clear that a group called the Secret Service is now involved. "I mean, we've never seen anything like this before," Tacopina said.
Tacopina said "No" when asked if Trump will be handcuffed next week.
"This won't work. We're going to win this case because of that. We'll make them look bad, and they'll have to pay for it," Tacopina said.
